About The Municipality

RS Pura, with its illustrious history rooted in the valor of the Saini Rajputs, unfolds a captivating chapter dating back to the time of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. In an era when India was fragmented into myriad small kingdoms, Haripur emerged as a modest state situated in the realms of Sialkot (Pakistan) and the Jammu region. Over time, the name metamorphosed into Sohagpur, now known as Sohagpur RS Pura. The inception of the Municipal Committee RS Pura marked a pivotal moment in local governance. Established as a Notified Area under SRO 372 on the 30th of November 1962, the committee was entrusted with the administration of an area spanning 1.50 square kilometers.

As of the last Census Survey in 2011, RS Pura is home to a total population of 8,984, distributed across its thirteen wards. Functioning as the gateway to Jammu & Kashmir, the town experiences a daily floating population ranging from approximately 13,000 to 16,000 individuals. This dynamic demographic reflects the town's significance as a hub of activity and a passage to the northern reaches of India.

The Municipal Committee RS Pura is dedicated to ensuring the well-being of its residents and the transient population. Its primary responsibilities include the provision of civic amenities, with a specific focus on better sanitation, street lighting, access to clean drinking water, public convenience facilities, and the maintenance of lanes and drains. These efforts contribute to enhancing the overall quality of life for both the permanent residents and those passing through the town. As RS Pura continues to evolve, its Municipal Committee remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing the needs of the community, fostering development, and upholding the town's historical legacy.
