Rajouri Town, a district headquarters, is nestled on the right bank of Darhali River, situated approximately 155 kilometers from the Jammu-Poonch National Highway in the North Western part of Jammu and Kashmir State. The district shares borders with POK (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir) to the west, District Poonch and Pulwama to the north, and parts of District Jammu to the south. The town is embraced by the foothills of Pir Panjal and districts Udhampur and Jammu in the east.
The Government of Jammu and Kashmir established the Municipal Council Rajouri during the year 1953.
