Our History


Kishtwar the land of Saffron and Sapphire was an independent hilly state during the medieval period. Maharaja Gulab Singh, the Dogra ruler of Jammu, usurped it in 1821A.D. Kishtwar is bounded by Ladakh/Zanskar on the East, Himachal Pradesh on the South, Kashmir Valley (Distt. Anantnag) on the North West and District Doda on the West .The Plateau of Kishtwar is 5300 feet or 1631 meters above sea level. It lies between the Longitude 75°43’30” and 75°47’00” E; Latitude 33°17’30” and 33°22’15” N. Kishtwar town is situated 280 km far from Srinagar, 234 Kms from Jammu & 60 Km from Pul Doda.
